About Laura
Laura Robson rose to fame in the summer of 2008, when she won the Wimbledon Junior Girls’ Championship at just 14 years old. Laura was actually born in Australia, and had only gained her British passport a few months prior to the tournament when her father was granted a British passport in February that year. She currently holds dual-citizenship with the UK and Australia.
Laura’s father, Andrew, is an Australian oil executive with Royal Dutch Shell, her mother, Kathy, is an Australian sports coach and former professional basketball player. Laura also has a brother and a sister, Nicolas and Emily. Already well travelled, Laura moved with her family from Melbourne to Singapore when she was eighteen months old, staying there for four years. She then moved to England when she was six years old.
Due to the amount of time and commitment needed for training, Laura is home-tutored. She is quoted as not liking maths, “I’m not good at Maths, but my Dad helps me” but conversely, liking English “because there’s no right or wrong answer and you can write what you like”.
