British juniors bow out at Wimbledon

Laura Robson and Tom Farquharson both bowed out of the Wimbledon junior event in the third round on Wednesday.

Robson, the No.2 seed and reigning champion, lost a hard fought battle to Quirine Lemoine of the Netherlands 2-6 6-4 6-8 in front of a packed Court 18.

The 15 year-old left-hander got off to the worst possible start by losing her opening two service games but came back strongly in the second set to level the match.

In the decider, Robson looked to be heading out when facing three match points at 3-5 0-40 but she held serve before breaking Lemoine to tie the set at 5-5.

However, it was the Dutch player who made the decisive break through on Robson’s serve two games later, eventually winning 8-6 to set up a quarter final clash with the No.6 seed from Hungary, Timea Babos.

Farquharson, a wildcard entry into the main draw, had his run ended by the highly rated No.3 seed, Bernard Tomic of Australia, 3-6 4-6 on Court 14.

The 17 year-old was not outclassed by Tomic, who reached the second round of the senior event at his home Grand Slam in January, with one break of serve in each set giving the Australian a route through to the last eight.
